Obituary for William Michael "Pete" Thomas
William Michael (Pete) Thomas, Sr., 79, of Greencastle, PA died at 6:20 AM January 1, 2022 at his home with his wife and son at his side.
Born August 10, 1942, in Cove Gap, PA he was a son of the late Woodrow and Erma (Miller) Thomas.
Pete was a 1961 graduate of James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964. Following his service he worked for Grove Manufacturing, Shady Grove, PA, Helfrick’s Machine Shop, Greencastle, Hennessey Machine Shop, Chambersburg, and Lee Hill Machine Shop, now known as T & H Machine, Fort Loudon, PA. He retired from JLG, McConnellsburg.
Pete held memberships in Chambersburg Amvets Post 224, American Legion Post #517, and Moose Lodge #1790 both of Mercersburg.
An avid hunter, Pete also enjoyed watching wrestling on TV and was a fan of NASCAR driver Mark Martin. He also enjoyed going to yard sales, flea markets, and auctions.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents as well as sisters, Vivian Sword, Dixie Sword, Peggy Sue Vaughn, Katheryn Diller, and Jane Elliott.
Surviving family include his wife, Nancy I. (Robinson) Thomas, whom he married June 19, 1966. A son, William (Mike) Thomas, Jr., two granddaughters, Brittany and Brianna Thomas, three sisters, Pat Harnish, Sharon Singer, Dolly Shearer, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 2:00 PM Thursday January 6, 2022 in Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with Reverend Alan Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
Viewing 6 to 8 PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday in the funeral home.
