Obituary for William Kenneth "Bill" Ernst
William K. “Bill” Ernst, 80, of Mercersburg, PA died July 28, 2022 at his home.
Born January 4, 1942 in Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Kenneth W. and Esther I. (Lowans) Ernst.
Bill attended Claylick Elementary School and James Buchanan high School, Mercersburg. As a young man he farmed with his father. He later worked as a stone mason for various contractors. Bill was last employed by Montgomery Township, for 20 years, mowing along roads.
He was a member of Blairs Valley Church of God and the NRA and attended Two Top Fellowship Church.
Bill enjoyed hunting elk in Colorado. He loved his wife, children, grand and great grandchildren.
Surviving family include his wife, Joyce E. (Divelbiss) Ernst, whom he married June 15, 1963. Two daughters, Billie Jo (Joe) Gehr and Becky (Mitch) Funk both of Mercersburg. Four grandchildren, Tyler (Taylor) Funk, Tanner (Lydia) Funk, Jessica (Ty) Carter, and Josh (Kayla) Gehr. Two great grandchildren, Lexi and Remi Carter. A sister, Linda Kriner of Clear Spring, MD.
Bill was preceded in death by three siblings, Doris Hunsberger, Edward Ernst, and Ronald Ernst.
There will no public viewing, however, a visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday in Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg.
Funeral service 1:00 PM Wednesday August 3, 2022 in the funeral home with Pastors Ronald Martin and Paul Martin officiating. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Clear Spring.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Two Top Ruritan Club, 12270 Two Top Road, Mercersburg, or Two Top Fellowship Church, 13743 Fort Loudon Road, Mercersburg, PA 17236.
