Obituary for Tonya Hissong

Tonya M. Hissong, 68, of St. Thomas, PA, died February 5, 2022 in Menno Haven Brookview Center, Chambersburg, PA.

Born on January 10, 1954 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of Mary J. (Toms) Hissong of St. Thomas and the late Wayne O. Hissong.

Tonya was a 1971 graduate of James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg. She received her LPN training through the former Vo-Tech School. Tonya received her Registered Nurse degree from Hagerstown Junior College. She was employed for over 40 years at the Chambersburg Hospital, with the pediatric unit being her favorite. Tonya retired in January 2016. She enjoyed crochet, cross stitch, and made many pictures for family and friends. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and shopping. Tonya was a fan of the Washington Redskins and Penn State football.

Tonya was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church.

In addition to her mother, Tonya is survived by a sister, April H. (Thomas) McCulloh of Mercersburg, PA, a niece, Shana Snyder of St. Thomas, a step nephew, Matthew (Fawne) McCulloh of Mercersburg, two aunts, Joanne Harman of Strongsville, Ohio, Carolyn (C. Edgar) Snyder of Mercersburg, and a number of cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday February 11, 2022 at Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with the Reverend Matthew Kayhart officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service on Friday in the funeral home.
