Obituary for Shirley P. Hawbaker
Shirley P. Hawbaker, 84, of Mercersburg, went to be with the Lord after passing away Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the Chambersburg WellSpan Hospital after an extended illness.
Born December 2, 1938 in Markes, PA she was a daughter of the late John W. and Anna Gayle (Kahn) Yeager Sr.
Shirley graduated from James Buchanan High school in 1956. She worked as a seamstress for 21 and a half years at the former Stanley Company. She loved spending time with her family and friends and loved to spoil her nieces and nephews. Every year, Shirley looked forward to hosting a Christmas meal for her family. Shirley was a member of Greencastle Church of God.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard P. Hawbaker, and siblings, E. Eleanora Fix, David R. (Virginia) Yeager, Richard Lee “Joe” (Ellen) Yeager, Gene E. (Dolly) Yeager, and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley is preceded in death by her siblings, John W. Yeager Jr., D. Bruce Yeager, Charles Yeager, and Doris Yeager.
A viewing will be Monday December 12, 2022 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Fries Funeral Home in Mercersburg, PA. A funeral will be 11 AM on Tuesday December 13 at the Greencastle Church of God with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service and Pastor Floyd Myers officiating. Burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Lemasters, PA.
