Obituary for Sharlene M Riess
Sharlene “Shar” Mae Riess, 64, of Mercersburg, PA went Home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 in Chambersburg.
Born April 17, 1957, in Bridgeton, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late George and W. and Marlene G. Watts Koch.
At 8 years old, Sharlene’s family moved to Butzbach, Germany for several years and then to North Carolina, Maryland, and settled in Rouserville, PA. Sharlene graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1975, and earned an Associate’s degree in B.A. from Penn State in 1978. While at Penn State, she met and later married Jack W. Riess Jr. on July 22, 1979 in Waynesboro. Sharlene worked for Fashion Bug, Citicorp, and Mason-Dixon Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Sharlene loved attending Penn State events, and in 1996 she and her husband developed an interest in scouting and spent the next 5 years taking her son and other scouts through the program. Afterwards, she remained with the program in many capacities through current day. She spent many summers volunteering at the Sinoquipe Scout Reservation and was accepted into the Honor Society of Scouting completing her Brotherhood along with many other awards including the Silver Beaver Award, the “Pop” Stoner Award, and the completion of her Woodbadge. She was the Charter Organization Representative of Pack 28, Troop 28, and 28-G.
Sharlene was a devout Christian who loved her family, and was extremely proud of her family. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mercersburg.
Sharlene is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jack W. Riess Jr., and her two sons, Andrew (Crystall) Riess, and Erik (Kayla) Riess, grandchildren Cierra, Kaleb, Blaiden ,4 great-grandchildren, and her mother, Marlene G. Koch.
Sharlene is preceded in death by her father, George W. Koch.
