Raymond S. Hawbaker, 92, of Chambersburg, PA, and formerly of Lemasters, PA, died June 13, 2022 following a brief illness.
Born January 18, 1930 in Lemasters, he was a son of the late Reverend Samuel B. and Ethel (Brindle) Hawbaker.
Raymond was a 1948 graduate of Lemasters High School. He then joined his father on the family dairy farm, which he operated for 35 years. Raymond was then employed as District Director for the USDA- ASCS in MD for 10 years, retiring in 1995. He drove a school bus for various bus contractors over the years and was a real estate agent. Raymond enjoyed bowling, hunting, his family, and grandchildren.
He was a member of Chambersburg Church of the Brethren, charter member of Edward Parnell Ruritan Club and member of Ruritan Forever, former Tuscarora School Board member, Lemasters Community Improvement Association, Franklin Co. Farm Bureau and Authority Board for Mountain View Elementary and Franklin Co. Learning Center.
Surviving family include his wife, June K. (Carr) Hawbaker, whom he married May 11, 1952. Three daughters, Linda Hawbaker, Chambersburg, Carol (Jere) Wingert and Nancy (Bryan) Hoke both of St. Thomas, PA. Three grandchildren, Steffanye (Adam) Mack of Illinois and Nicholas and Samuel Wingert both of St. Thomas, two great grandchildren, Roman and Lana Mack. A sister, Betty Miller, Greencastle, brother, M. Eugene Hawbaker, Lemasters, sister-in-law, Mabel Hawbaker, St. Thomas. Raymond was preceded in death by a son, Alan Hawbaker, and siblings, J. Harold Hawbaker and Dorothy Grove.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM June 24, 2022 in Chambersburg Church of the Brethren with Pastor Joel F. Nogle officiating. Private burial in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters.
There will be no viewing.
