Obituary for Paul Albert Martin

Rev. Paul A. Martin, 86, of Mercersburg, passed on to his Heavenly home on January 13, 2023.

Born in Mercersburg, PA on September 16, 1936, he was a son of the late John and Evelyn Martin.
Paul graduated from Lemasters School, Class of 1954. He grew up in the Welsh Run Church of the Brethren and married his high school sweetheart, Alma Grove, in 1955. Paul continued the family business of farming until his recent retirement. While raising a family of six children, together with his loving wife, Alma, he had the calling to begin preaching in 1969. From 1969-81 he began preaching at the Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren. He founded the Two Top Fellowship Church in Mercersburg, PA in 1984. He preached for 53 years, with his last service given in December 2022.

Paul was a beloved community leader, serving as a member of the Montgomery Township Planning Committee for more than 30 years, as well as the Two Top Ruritan Club, the Pine Ridge Hunting Club, and the senior center. In his free time, Paul enjoyed gardening, hunting, and taking care of his animals, but above all else, he cherished the time he spent with family, friends, and neighbors in the community.

He loved to spread the word of God, to anyone who would listen: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Paul is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alma Martin, and six children: Linda Einwechter (William) of Ephrata, PA, Edwin Martin (Brigid) of Mercersburg, Daniel Martin (Kathy) of Mercersburg, Michael Martin (Janet) of Jonestown, PA, Pamela Martin of Mercersburg, PA, and Amy Maculam (Joseller) of Torrance, CA. Paul was a beloved grandfather to nineteen grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, many great and great-great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Dorothy and Esther Clever of Greencastle, PA.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, and sisters Helen and Ruth Martin, a grandson, and two great-grandchildren.
