Obituary for Mary Louise Reidout

Mary Louise (Dolly) Burke - Reidout passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 in Allentown, PA.

Born March 16th, 1925 in Chambersburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Mary Rebecca (Watson) Burke and John (Pete) E. Burke. She was raised in Mercersburg, PA and graduated from the Mercersburg High School. Dolly married, Albert Ernest Reidout and they were blessed with two daughters, Deborah Ann Joyner and Valerie Louise Reidout.

Louise (Dolly) began working at the Mercersburg Academy in September of 1965, where she was known as Louise, until she retired in January of 1992. She always spoke fondly of her time at the Academy, and very much enjoyed helping with gatherings at the Headmaster’s house and her work in the Dining Hall. Louise maintained connection with the Academy after retirement. She was brought back in 2019 to be presented with a 26-year Service Recognition award from the Academy’s Black Student Union.
She enjoyed watching Basketball, Football, and TV Westerns, and was also an avid reader of Amish fiction, having read over 2,000 novels. She became interested in Amish culture after moving to Kutztown, PA in 2009 to live with her daughter, Valerie.

Louise (Dolly) was a long time faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church of Mercersburg. She sang in the choir, was an emeritus member of the trustee board and always willing to perform services for her church.
Louise is survived by her daughter Valerie Reidout and significant other Kenneth Newton of Kutztown, PA a sister, Victoria Kieffer (Lester), son-in-law, Ronald Joyner, and grandchildren Leigh Ann Schwenk and Jason Burke Joyner (Tracy), and great-grandchildren, Phoebe and Ethan Schwenk, Lily and Landon Joyner, grandcats, Keiko, Chandler, and Flynn, and many nieces and nephews. Along with other relatives, and friends whom she dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ernie Reidout (1986), a daughter, Debbie Joyner, and sisters, Dorothy Gates (Leon) and Roberta Lynch (Charles), and brothers, Warren M. Burke (Elizabeth) and John W. Burke (Constance) and Jack Theodore Burke Sr.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Fries Funeral Home in Mercersburg, PA with Reverend Marilyn Hubbard officiating and burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA. There will be a viewing 1 hour prior to the service.
