Obituary for Martha Jane Kopp
Martha “Marty” Jane Kopp of Rockville, MD, passed away on May 5, 2022, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD. She was 91 years old.
Born on February 18, 1931, in Jefferson County, PA, she was daughter to the late Meade L. Fye and Emma V. Fye.
Marty graduated from Big Run High School in 1949. While working in DC, she met Richard J. Kopp on a blind date in 1954. The two were married in Yuma, AZ, on March 3, 1955, while Richard was serving in the Navy. The two were married for over 60 years. Marty worked for years as an elementary school teacher’s assistant and high school guidance secretary for the Montgomery County school system.
She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Marty enjoyed going to estate sales with Richard, crocheting, bowling, word puzzles, and watching her favorite Baltimore Orioles. She also loved her neighbors and was known affectionately as the Cookie Lady by many neighborhood children.
Marty was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by daughter Nina Metz and her husband Craig of Hagerstown, MD; son Brian Kopp and Elizabeth Moffat of Windsor, England; son Bradley Kopp and his wife Renee of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, Mallory DeLisle and her husband Beau, Sara Metz and her husband Azhi Ahmed, Christine Kopp and her partner Ray Higgins, Lauren Metz, Nick Shaw, and Katie Shaw; and great-grandson Elias Ahmed. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Fye of DuBois, PA.
No services are planned at this time. A celebration of Marty’s life will be held on a later date at the family’s convenience.
