Obituary for John Evans

John Edward “Eddie” Evans, 75 of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania passed peacefully in his sleep on March 18th, 2023. Eddie was born January 19th, 1948 in Washington DC to the late Lee and Eve (Sellars) Evans.

Eddie served in the Vietnam War, was an active member of the American Legions of College Park, MD and Mercersburg, and VFW #5627. He was a postal employee in College Park, for 39 years until his retirement in 2006. After his retirement he was a driver for Mercersburg Academy.

Eddie enjoyed playing baseball. He enjoyed watching sports, specifically the Washington Nationals, Washington Capitals, Washington Redskins, and Maryland Terps. He enjoyed his retirement in Mercersburg including traveling every year to Saratoga Springs, NY with his loving wife Donna. Eddie was most happy when spending time with his family and friends. He loved taking his family out for a “bite to eat.” He took immense pride in being a Great Grandfather to his “buddy” Great Grandson Axel.

Eddie is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother, Jimmy Evans.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Evans, step-father Paul Stepp, sister Nancy (Donnie) Moore, children Shannon Cantrill, Eddie Evans, Michelle Evans, and Susie (Wade) Sellars, step-daughter Lisa (Marcia) Ambrusko, and grandchildren, Samantha (Cory) Hemp, Catherine Mistichelli, John Tucker, Evie Tucker, Sean Griffith, Joey Griffith, Katerina Griffith, great-grandson Axel Hemp, and dear family friend, Barbara McLaren and many other family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at American Legion Post 517, Keefer Drive, Mercersburg, on April the 1st 2023 at 12:00 PM.

In honor of Eddie please wear your favorite sports jersey. In lieu of flowers, you can donate to the American Legion Post 517 in Eddie Evans name.
