Obituary for Jack M. "Deke" McLaughlin
Jack M. “Deke” McLaughlin, 85, of Mercersburg, PA died January 8, 2022 in the Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA.
Born November 16, 1936, in Hagerstown, MD, he was a son of the late Jack M. and Margaret (McCartney) McLaughlin.
Deke was a 1954 graduate of Mercersburg Academy. He attended William & Mary College, Williamsburg, VA, and Lafayette College, Easton, PA. He served two years US Navy and then continued his education and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.
Deke owned and operated Mercersburg Pharmacy. He later worked for Dart Drug, People’s Drug Store, and was a staff pharmacist at Wal Mart of Chambersburg and Hagerstown for 25 years.
He was a member of Upper West Conococheague Presbyterian Church of Mercersburg, Mount Pisgah Lodge F & AM #443, Greencastle, PA. Deke enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving family include his wife of 63 years, Julia (Kauffman) McLaughlin, two daughters, Lisa M. (Doug) McCulloh, Mercersburg, and Jill M. (Rick) Martin, Elizabethtown, PA, and two grandsons, Connor McCulloh and Jeremy Sabathne. Deke was preceded in death by a son, Kirby A. McLaughlin, who died in 2009.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
