Obituary for Gary L. Shives
Gary L. Shives, 74, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday August 10, 2022 at his home.
Gary was born in Chambersburg, PA, the son of the late James H. Shives Jr. and Rosaline (Williamson) Shives.
Gary was employed 33 years at James River, formerly American Can Company and 10 years at the Butcher Shoppe in Chambersburg, PA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, antique vehicles, basketball, football, NHRA and spending time with his family and friends
Gary is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Shotts) Shives, whom he married on September 22, 1967. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Kevin (Valarie) Shives of Chambersburg, grandsons Brody, Remy and Kirby Wible all of Greencastle, step-grandchildren Missy Deree of St. Thomas, Bree Beam of Mount Holly Springs, PA, Dylan Deree of Marion, PA, and several step great-grandchildren and nieces.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a step-father, John Hornbaker, daughter Kimberly Shives Wible, and a brother Ronnie Shives.
A funeral service will be held on 2:00 PM on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, PA, with Pastor Loy Garber officiating. There will be a visitation held 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Stenger HIll Cemetery, Fort Loudon, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA 1320 Linglestown Rd. Harrisburg, PA 17110.
