Obituary for Dixie Schreiber

Dixie Ann Schreiber, 63, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021 in Harrisburg, PA.
Born September 25, 1958, in Maysville, NC, was a daughter of the late William D. Unger and Doris Ann Shives Unger.

Dixie graduated with honors from James Buchanan High School in 1976 and earned an associate’s degree from the Secretarial School of Hagerstown, MD. For 35 years she worked as a secretary for the Chambersburg and Waynesboro Hospital network. Dixie owned and operated a mastectomy form and fitting place, and also helped run the Pleasant View apartment facilities in Chambersburg.

Dixie loved reading, telling stories, working in her garden, and canning foods. She enjoyed researching her genealogy and loved rooting for Penn State football and following the team’s recruiting.

She was a proud member of the Family Motor Coach Association, a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and an advocate for the Gift of Life Organ Donation program.

Dixie is survived by her mother, Doris Ann Unger, a son, Benjamin (Autumn) Chilcote of Flagler Beach, FL, a daughter, Bethany (Cameron) Mellott of St. Thomas, and stepchildren, Karl (Jenny) Schreiber of Greencastle, Amy (Jim) Bian of Richmond, VA, Hans (Tawnya) Schreiber of Elizabethtown, PA, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Dixie is preceded in death by her husband, Allen B. Schreiber (2018).

A funeral will take place at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Fries Funeral Home with Reverend W. David Kent officiating and burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA. There will be a viewing 1 hour prior to the service. The family requests that everyone attending the service is to wear a mask and that COVID precautions are maintained. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available at the door.

A viewing will be held 6-8 PM on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Fries Funeral Home in Mercersburg, PA.
