Obituary for David R. Yeager

David R. Yeager, 86, of Markes, PA died January 15, 2023.
Born March 30, 1936 in Markes, he was a son of the late John W., Sr. and Anna Gayle (Kahn) Yeager.
A 1955 graduate of James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg, David was the valedictorian of his class.
He served in the US Army from 1959 to 1961 with 59th Signal Company and was honorably discharged as a corporal. While in the Army, he was stationed at Koblenz, Germany. David operated the post office at Mercersburg Academy for 35 ½ years. He was affectionately known as “the lord of the mail room” by students and faculty. He was presented with the Alumni Council Award in 2003.
David was a former member of Lemasters United Church of Christ where he faithfully served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, and Consistory president for many years. Currently he was a member of St. Thomas-Edenville United Methodist Church where he was also very active in church activities. Former board member of Spring Grove Cemetery Assoc.
David was a loving husband, dad, and pappy. He loved spending time with his family, woodworking and furniture making, watching NASCAR, puzzles, and listening to country and gospel music.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Elijah John Lumidao, and siblings, John W. Yeager Jr., D. Bruce Yeager, Charles Yeager, Doris Yeager, and Shirley Hawbaker.
Surviving family include his wife, Virginia L. (Hendershot) Yeager, whom he married April 22, 1962. A daughter, Karen S. (John) Lumidao, Alexandria, VA, two sons, Timothy D. (Patricia A.) Yeager, Burke, VA, and Kevin L. Yeager, Baltimore, MD. Three grandchildren, Kara A., Allison L., and Andrew V. Yeager. A sister, E. Eleanora Fix, and two brothers, Richard Lee “Joe” (Helen) Yeager and Gene E. (Dolly) Yeager, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 11 am Friday January 20, 2023 in St. Thomas-Edenville United Methodist Church, 360 St.Thomas-Edenville Rd., St. Thomas with Pastor Candy Arnold officiating. Burial in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters.
Visitation one hour prior to the service Friday in the church.
Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
