Obituary for David S. Shuman

David S. Shuman, 83, of Mercersburg, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023 at his residence.

Born April 4, 1939 in Chambersburg, PA, he was a son of the late Clarence R. and Jane L. (Dayley) Shuman.

David graduated from Mercersburg High School and served in the United States Marine Corp from 1957-1959. David worked as a carpenter and supervisor for the Alexander’s Constructors Inc until retiring in 2002. David enjoyed coaching the Mercersburg Little League baseball and was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Eagles, and Bill Elliott of NASCAR. David loved taking trips with his wife to their cabin in Renova, PA and visiting the local flea markets. He loved spending time in the outdoors and enjoyed hunting mushrooms and animals.

David was a lifetime member of the Chambersburg Marine Corp, a member of the Mercersburg Moose, McConnellsburg American Legion #561, and the Little Cove Gun Club.

David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rachel May Shuman, a daughter Christina L. Powers, two grandchildren, Shantina R. (Shaun) Linn, and Shayla R. Harnish, and one great-grandchild, Sienna R. Fusco. Also, other surviving family members include Donald (Roxanne) Banks, and grandchild, Tobey Banks, great-grandchildren Hailee (Scott) McClure, Jackson R. Banks, and a great-great grandchild, Navee McClure.
David is preceded in death by an infant sister, Martha, a grandson, Troy Banks, and a great-grandchild, Raquel M. Banks.

A viewing will be held Sunday 6:00 – 8:00 PM January 29, 2023 at Fries Funeral Home in Mercersburg, PA. The funeral will be 3:00 PM on Monday at Fries Funeral Home with Pastor David Riley officiating and burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA.
