Obituary for Christie Hawbaker

Christie Ann Pine Hawbaker passed away Friday December 9, 2022 with her family by her side.

Born August 16, 1971 at Reynolds Army Hospital, Fort Sill, OK, daughter of G. Randy and Cynthia F. Cordell Pine.

At six months of age, Christie became a world traveler when the family moved to Pinder Barracks in Zirndorf, Germany. In 1972, the family repatriated and settled in Mercersburg, PA.

Christie graduated from James Buchanan High School at 1989 and earned a BS in Business and Economics at Wilson College in 1992. Christie was always proud of the fact that she started college at 17 years old as a senior and graduated in 3 years at the age of 20. While in college, Christie played softball for the inaugural Wilson ladies softball team, was president of the Wilson Business Club, and organized field trips to the United Nations in New York City to observe negotiations of the World Bank providing debt relief for financially failing countries. Christie also served as president of Franklin County College Republicans. Christie later went on to complete her MBA at Frostburg University.

Upon graduating college, Christie worked in various positions of increasing responsibility at Mercersburg Academy. She was Director of Advancement Services until May 2009 when injuries from an auto accident left her unable to continue her career.

Christie was known for her quick wit and good humor, making those around her feel comfortable. She was an excellent cook, always trying new recipes, and she greatly enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Christie enjoyed the kind words, cards, prayers, and many visits of friends and family.

Surviving family includes her husband, Barry Hawbaker and their children Collin and Chloe of Welsh Run, PA. Parents G. Randy and Cindy Pine, brother Dustin (Jordon) Pine, all of Mercersburg, brother Shannon (Jenni) Pine, and nieces and nephews; Elodie, Rebecca and Bruin Pine of Evans, GA.
