Obituary for Chester W. "Chet" Keefer

Chester “Chet” “Buddy” Keefer, age 87, of Mercersburg, PA, went to be with the Lord on February 27, 2022 at Waynesboro Hospital after a brief illness.
Born July 15, 1934 in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late Harry and Elsie (Bennett) Keefer.
Chester graduated from Lemaster High School in 1952 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in March 1954. He was honorably discharged in November 1957. He always enjoyed sharing stories, and a slide presentation, of his stay in Thule, Greenland.
He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot. After a brief retirement period, he worked for Antrim Valley Associates, Southern Cross and lastly JWP Environmental Services. He was a member of Brandts Church, St. Thomas, PA, American Legion Post 606, Fort Loudon, PA and American Legion Post 517, Mercersburg.
He was a huge fan of Penn State athletics, especially football, the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles. But his passion was golf. He loved the times he spent with his friends and family on the golf course, always maintaining his calm demeaner even if he had a bad shot, which was not often. He was so proud of his Hole in One. He especially looked forward to the American Legion state golf tournament each year and his annual golf outing with his buddies to celebrate his birthday.
Above all else, he loved spending time with his family. He married the love of his life, Darlene Hill, on March 28, 1959. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1997 but they are reunited once again.
He will be greatly missed by his son Dave (Jean) Keefer, his daughter Cheryl (Jeff) Gehr, grandson CJ Gehr, granddaughters Brooke (Daryl) Helfrick and Macey (Noah) Runyan and his sister Rita Johns along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Melvin, Dale and Glen and his sisters Faye and Minnie.
A viewing will be 6-8 pm on Thursday, March 3rd at Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg.
Funeral service will be 11 am on Friday, March 4th at Brandts Church, 8003 Brandts Church Road, St Thomas. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
Memorial donations may be made to Brandts Church Mission Projects, 8003 Brandts Church Rd, St Thomas PA 17252.
