Obituary for Charles Gordon Sr.
Charles E. Gordon Sr. 86, of St. Thomas, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 in Chambersburg, PA.
Born December 17, 1936 in Hagerstown, MD, he was a son of the late Emmert Ellsworth Gordon Sr. and Isabelle Geesaman.
Charles attended Gaithersburg High School in Maryland and started working on farms in the area of Clear Spring, Maryland. Charles served in the U.S. Air Force and later married Leona D. Starliper. Charles worked as a milk tester before farming on his own in the Greencastle area. He truly loved working on the farm baling hay with his children and raising cattle. After his farming years, Charles worked as a truck driver for Martin’s Potato Bread until retirement. Charles loved talking about his trip to visit his extended family in Wyoming.
Charles is survived by his children, Katrina (Gary) Pettner, David E. Gordon, Anita (Ivan) Barnsley, 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, a brother Ridge (Katrina) Geesaman, and sister, Joyce (Dick) Geesaman Howe.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Leona D. Gordon, daughters Kimberly McDonald and Roxane Tammy Hockenberry, a son, Charles Gordon Jr., and siblings Emmert Gordon Jr., Carl Gordon, and Betty Jane Gordon.
A viewing will be held 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, May 15, 2023 at Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, PA. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 16, at Fries Funeral Home with a visitation 1 hour prior and Pastor John Starr officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery.
