Obituary for Charles L. Atherton
Charles L. Atherton, 79, formerly of Mercersburg, PA, died December 18, 2021 in Laurel Lakes Nursing & Rehab Center, Chambersburg, PA.
Born November 30, 1942 in Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Corbett D. and Hazel (Bowers) Atherton.
Charles was a former employee on the former Dwight Zitzman Farm, and later worked at the former Heisey’s Orchards, both of Mercersburg. He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot following 25 years of service. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending dirt track races.
Surviving are three sisters and one brother, Doris Tosten, of Hagerstown, MD, Norma (Donald) Clevenger, Vesta Fogelsonger, and Glen (Nellie) Atherton all of Mercersburg, and nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by six siblings, Frances Reeder, Mayetta Hull, Mildred Yost, Kenneth, Carl Atherton, and Donald Atherton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday December 23, 2021 in Fries Funeral Home Inc., with Pastor Greg Kell officiating. Burial in Welsh Run Church of Brethren Cemetery, Welsh Run, PA.
