Anthony “Stubby” Wayne Hawk, 62, of Mercersburg, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023 in Hagerstown, MD.
Born March 5, 1960 in Chambersburg, PA, he was a son of the late Richard L. and Mary L. Hawk Smith.
Anthony, also known as Stubby, graduated from James Buchanan High School in 1978. He owned and operated Exxon’s auto garage from 1994-2005. He later worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg until retiring in 2018. Over the years, Stubby enjoyed working on cars, and attending or watching NASCAR races. He loved nature and spending his time in the outdoors hunting and fishing, and cutting wood.
Stubby was a member of the American Legion Post 517 in Mercersburg, and Mercersburg Moose Lodge 1790.
Stubby is survived by his wife of 42 years, Julie D. Mitchell Hawk, and siblings Tammy (Richard) Polifka, Holly (Bryan) Cramer, Daniel Smith, a nephew, Adam Cramer, Uncle Bud (Ruth) Hawk, mother-in-law, Linda Maun and Charlie Clark, a step-mother-in-law, Vicki Mitchell, and a sister-in-law, Kelly (Michael) Reed. Surviving best friends include Dave Snider, Kenneth (Stretch) Atherton, Aubrey Higgins who was like a daughter to him, and his two dogs, Dewey and Gracie.
Stubby was preceded in death by nephews, Joshua and AJ Everetts, Aunt Gloria Monn, and a father-in-law, Ronald Mitchell.
A private burial will take place later at the convenience of the family at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA.
